Artificial intelligence has become second nature for some and a daunting reality for others. As an early adopter — and arguably a borderline innovator — I couldn’t wait to jump on the AI bandwagon.

Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (GPT) technology has revolutionized the way we interact with information. According to Merriam-Webster, a “large language model” is defined as “a language model that utilizes deep methods on an extremely large dataset as a basis for predicting and constructing natural-sounding text.”

As someone who wears multiple hats — a husband, father of two, and professional — efficiency is crucial. AI is not here to replace people; rather, those who use AI will replace those who don’t. Below are some of the primary ways I integrate ChatGPT into my daily routine.

1. Emails & Slack Communication

One of the simplest yet most effective uses of ChatGPT is for drafting emails and Slack messages. Whether I need a professional tone for business correspondence or a concise message for internal communication, AI ensures my messages are clear, concise, and impactful.

Example Prompt: “Draft a follow-up email thanking a client for their time and summarizing key points from our meeting.”

2. Brainstorming & Idea Generation

This is my most frequent use case. Whenever I need to flesh out ideas, prioritize tasks, or gain clarity on a concept, ChatGPT acts as a thought partner, offering quick insights and structured feedback.

Example Prompt: “Generate five unique event themes for a business networking mixer, incorporating innovation and community engagement.”

3. Spreadsheet Optimization

Whether using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, AI can generate complex formulas, create filters, and automate repetitive tasks. Though I use this feature sparingly, I’ve seen it perform wonders.

Example Prompt: “Provide a formula to calculate year-over-year revenue growth percentage in Google Sheets.”

4. Document Review & Summarization

Reviewing contracts, meeting minutes, and budget reports can be time-consuming. ChatGPT acts as my virtual assistant, offering concise summaries and highlighting key areas that require attention.

Example Prompt: “Summarize this 10-page contract and highlight any potential red flags.”

5. Canva & AI-Enhanced Design

If you haven’t used Canva yet, that’s a whole different conversation — but trust me, it’s a game-changer. Recently, Canva introduced an AI-powered plugin (available for paid users) that significantly enhances workflow efficiency. Initially, I found the plugin unimpressive, as it merely suggested templates without true customization. However, upon revisiting, I discovered a much-improved product that allows for clear text, relevant imagery, and a seamless design experience.

Example Prompt: “Please create a flyer for our golf outing on September 6: ‘Trotwood Chamber’s 16th Annual Golf Outing at Meadowbrook Golf Course, 6001 Salem Avenue, Clayton, OH, September 6, 2024.’”

AI as an Essential Tool, Not a Replacement

The key takeaway is that AI itself won’t replace people — rather, those who use AI effectively will outperform those who don’t. Embracing these tools allows for greater efficiency, productivity, and innovation in both professional and personal tasks.
